LEARNING OBJECTIVE 1:
1) Objective: I would like to generate non-profit contacts while I perform my tasks with Jerusalem Farm. This will expand my network circle across the Kansas City, M.O. area. Before my internship ends, I aim to establish good contacts with eight non-profit and local business professionals.
2) Learning Activities: Through meeting and sharing background experiences with everybody I meet, I will be able to achieve this goal. Communication through phone calls, e-mails and face-to-face contact will all aid in this goal’s accomplishment. I will design, develop and distribute business cards to everyone that I meet throughout my time here at Jerusalem Farm. In addition, I plan to send follow-up messages via e-mail to every professional that I meet throughout the duration of my internship.
3) Evaluation: By July 25th, I will have a list of eight contacts that I may be able to contact for a job reference and career-networking purposes. These contacts will consist of experienced professionals from various backgrounds. They will all be a great benefit to my personal networking and future career goals. Completion of this goal will be shown if I have my list completed in an online Google Chart and an Excel document.
4) Reflection: This objective has been fully met. I was able to meet with 29 individuals and generate a list of contact information. Through completing this objective, I developed my communication skills as well as my skills with Microsoft Excel. Jerusalem Farm hosted numerous retreat groups which had a weekly average of 40 people. Therefore, the completion of this goal was easier than I had expected. Many of the individuals that I met were from San Francisco, C.A., Louisville, K.Y. and Overland Park, K.S. This task allowed me to network with various people on a national scale.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE 2:
1) Objective: By July 21st, I will increase the number of people following the Jerusalem Farm Facebook page by 20 percent. This increased following will help share what work the non-profit organization is performing in the downtown Kansas City, M.O. neighborhoods. At the start of my internship, there were 627 people and other pages following the Jerusalem Farm page on Facebook.
2) Learning Activities: I will update and manage the Jerusalem Farm Facebook page on a daily basis and network with similar non-profits. I will create bi-weekly posts to go on the Facebook page, send introductory messages to three local organizations a week and take two photos a week of Jerusalem Farm’s current projects within the downtown Kansas City, M.O. area.
3) Evaluation: Completion of this goal will be judged on my ability to reach an increased following of 20 percent.
4) Reflection: This objective was partially fulfilled. Through creating weekly posts and reaching out to other local organizations, I was able to increase the following of the Jerusalem Farm Facebook page by 44 people. I learned that more people followed the organization's page during weeks that I posted more often. Since I began posting two times a week, activity on the organization's page increased 440 percent, according to Facebook Insight. Overall, this task helped develop my social media management skills. I learned how to operate Facebook's analytic tools and was able to track the growth of Jerusalem Farm's online activity.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE 3:
1) Objective: By July 25th, I will research and develop grant writing materials for Jerusalem Farm. This will benefit the organization with acquiring grant funds in the future.
2) Learning Activities: I will conduct research on grant writing structure as well as develop two brochures and two text-documents for Jerusalem Farm to use with its future grant writing. The brochures and documents will contain detailed background information about Jerusalem Farm’s compost pickup program, home repair services and retreat group opportunities.
3) Evaluation: Completion of this goal will be judged on if I complete the two brochures and two text-documents.
4) Reflection: This objective has been fully met. I was able to produce two brochures and two text-documents for grant writing. Through creating these brochures and writing these documents, I was able to develop my research and writing skills. In return, Jerusalem Farm will benefit from these materials as they will be aids to its outreach and fundraising campaigns. Much of the work that I completed for this task is already being used by Jerusalem Farm as outreach materials within the Pendleton Heights neighborhood.
