Non-profit job interviews are similar to interviews for other types of jobs. From what my internship sponsors have told me, non-profit job interviews tend to be full of questions on the candidates experiences and life goals. My sponsors also told me that I should bring a portfolio to allow the interviewer to see work that I have completed prior to the interview. They explained that this supplement application material will give the interviewer a better feel for the type of work I’ve done in the past as well as the quality of work that I have created.
In addition, my sponsors advised me to dress for the occasion, but to be mindful of the setting. Interview attire should always be business professional, however, it is great to be mindful of the level of formality that a non-profit organization holds.
One topic that I like to discuss at interviews for non-profit jobs is my personal mission. I believe that I can set myself apart from other job candidates by having an overall goal for my professional life.
