My name is Cole Anneberg and I am beginning my second year in the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas. I plan on graduating in May 2017 with a Bachelors in Strategic Journalism and a minor in Italian.
Community service is one of my main interests in life. This passion of mine stems from when I was in a year-long term of service with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. After my service, I knew that I was deeply connected with the non-profit world. Therefore, I sought out internship opportunities in the non-profit sector during this past semester. After many months, I found a non-profit that I identified with.
Located only five minutes away from downtown Kansas City, M.O., Jerusalem Farm is a Catholic intentional community that provides outreach services for its surrounding neighborhoods. I will be working with Jerusalem Farm’s existing community staff as its Community Relations Coordinator to help develop outreach literature about the organization, organize its major fundraising campaign and assist with social media management.
This summer I hope to develop my communication skills. In addition, I would like to further develop my graphic design skills through my work with Jerusalem Farm’s website and brochures. This opportunity to work with the organization will benefit me in my future career endeavors because I will practice communication on a large scale and work alongside non-profit community experts.
This summer I hope to not only stay busy at my internship, but to enjoy the downtime as well. I will be living in Topeka, K.S. with one of my closest friends and enjoying my free time at Shawnee Lake. I swam throughout my senior year of high school and I have missed it ever since. Therefore, I take any chance I can get to go outside and enjoy some lake water.
